In his day, Isaac Mayer Wise wrote a number of novels and published in editorial columns of the “Israelite” on all manner of Jewish interest subjects. Educated in Hebrew education at home by his father, Rabbi Leo Wise, and his grandfather, I. M. Wise eventually continued his studies in Prague. In 1846 he emigrated to the United States and was appointed Rabbi of Congregation Beth-El of Albany, New York. He was regarded as one of the prominent reform Jews of the United States.
